Setting up a home Lab

I am in the process of establishing a home lab to gain practical experience in Cyber Security. I have already made progress by downloading Oracle Virtual Machine and setting up Kali Linux. This is my first attempt at blogging, and I didn’t realize I could share my work and advancements with those interested, so… Here we go!

  1. My next step is setting up a new Machine with Windows 10 which is going to be the target attacked, I have downloaded a Windows x64 ISO image from Microsoft.com
  2. Open Oracle VM and click New, I name it Windows10 and select the downloaded Windows ISO image to mount it and install it in this new machine.
  3. .Select a username and password, something easy just in case, username1 and password 123.
  4. Am going to allocate the recommended resources for RAM, CPU and Storage, don’t need anything crazy.
  5. Follow the prompts as if Am installing windows on a Physical PC, note you’ll need to buy a key from Microsoft in order to have a working Windows OS.
  6. and voila, I wasn’t sure if my PC could take it but yes, 2 VMs plus the physical one seems to be working. Now everything is set to start doing some research.

Update: Since I did this a few weeks before actually launching my web blog I didn’t track any of the apps I played with that day. Am studying as much as I have free time every day so stay tuned for more info and details. Here is a screenshot of both VMs running that day
